Because of the lies, no one was making appointments at my clinic. 
In fact, people were canceling. I reassured my staff that everything 
would be OK. 

They knew that what had been written was wrong, and they remained 
stalwart on a ship that was undoubtedly sinking.
After that, a group of veterinarians who composed the state (called cantons 
in Switzerland) branch of the national veterinary association was very 
displeased with my practice's success. 

They also hated the fact that I was receiving clients around the clock.
They were also unhappy that when patients required it, I would do 
full workups. If the patient needed surgery at three in the morning, 
I would do it. 

They were very displeased with that; however, instead of offering 
such a service to their patients and competing with me, 
they resorted to slander me.
Lies, lies, and more lies. They lied to pet owners about me. 
They also lied publicly about their qualifications. 
Thanks to their connections with the media, they made 
a TV show against me. 

They went to the extent of printing posters against me that they put 
in their reception areas.
They also put them in their waiting rooms and on their front doors.

After coming to me for an emergency, clients would go back to their 
regular veterinarians, who would tell them that my diagnosis and all 
my therapies were wrong. 

The veterinarians told clients that I had abused their trust and 
overcharged them. 
I had been working for 25 years without a single complaint. 
Suddenly, complaints started raining down. 
 So, I hired a detective... 

who went to the people who had filed complaints 
and asked them, "What happened?" We noticed that the veterinarians 
had requested their clients to file the complaints. 
Two experts were assigned...

to review the cases. One was a department 
director at the Zurich veterinary university. 

The other was Professor Calvert, a professor at the University 
of Georgia in the USA.
Both of them independently concluded that... 

they agreed 100% with all my diagnoses, therapeutic plans, 
and recommendations. 

They also both remarked that my prices were fair and generous to 
the point that is rarely seen in the profession.
There's a police report that states that my phones may have 
been tapped. 

It was terrible. 

A male veterinarian, a competitor to me, 
and another former president of this veterinary association, 
followed my female manager through a mall and cornered her. 

Then with his face, just inches from her ear,
he threatened her and said: 

"Be... Very... Careful"
One of my associate  veterinarians, Jelena, called me up at night because
she had to see an emergency patient and was too frightened 
to leave her car where she was hiding.

She was crying and could barely speak. 

Because a man said that he was one of the leaders of the nasty vets, 
had called her up, made fun of her accent  and 
threatening to visit her that night.

This was not the only incident like this (there was worse).
People ask me how I felt when all this was occurring. 

Well, I felt like I was on a ship that was on fire, and that every member 
of the crew was trying to shoot me down. 

Family and freinds were wored for my life.

That's really how I felt. 
I realized that my residency in diagnostic pathology at the University of Bern 
had not prepared me to withstand such vicious assaults. 
Nor did my intensive postgraduate training at the Animal Medical Center
 in New York, considered one of the best animal hospitals in the world, 
prepare me to withstand such deliberately cruel and violent attacks. 
Neither did my one-to-one training with Dr. Martin Deangelis
considered one of the world's top veterinary surgeons.
When we train as veterinarians, we train to provide the 
best treatments we can. 

We're not trained to defend ourselves against such attacks.
So, when I was in the midst of this battle, I had to find a way to survive. 

I resorted to looking into what experts in marketing and 
management for veterinarians suggested. 

There are many experts, and they're good at what they do.

When an expert sells you a tactic, his or her goal is to sell the same 
solution to as many veterinarians as possible. 

The more successful the expert is at selling the tactic, 
the more “mainstream” the solution becomes.

This makes it less and less effective.
It waters it down.

 I exhausted all the recommendations I could find, to no avail. 

Some things helped, however, nothing worked constantly for me. 

 
I realized that if I wanted to survive, I had to find a system on my own.

I ended up suing these nasty vets all together, and I single-handedly won!
Of course, I resigned from every Swiss veterinary association 
and became a good-standing member of US and international ones. 
The Geneva court found their attitude to be so bad. 

The false rumors they spread to be so unacceptable that it 
forbade each member of the local veterinary association 
from commenting on any of my diagnostic and therapeutic decisions. 
The court also forbade them from criticizing my prices, which 
the court ruling found to be absolutely fine. 

Additionally, they had to stop lying to pet owners. 

Historic Moment In Switzerland!

As you may know, I also ended up winning my lawsuit against 
the national newspaper. 

I was awarded the largest compensation a newspaper 
ever had to pay in Switzerland.
 A friend of mine told me that the truth always ends up being discovered.
The way I see it, the problem is that... 

some veterinarians are like some priests: 

They looked so trustworthy before the truth came out, 
so who would have imagined?

And these are people who take care of patients, family pets, for years. 

Who would have thought that they would resort to what I would say 
was borderline criminal activity?
And, OK, the truth always ends up being discovered … but it takes time. 

And when you're the victim, you either survive, or you will 
be completely destroyed.
In my case, I was able to find, inside of myself, a new universe
—a strength whose origin I didn't know. 

I came back with a new system from this new universe
a bulletproof system that could go through the worst of battles
In the middle of these fights that lasted for years, I would look at 
the landscape from the mountain where I lived, and I would look 
in front of me, and I would look on each side of me. 

I told myself that most of the veterinarians there hated me. 

They wanted me to not be open on weekends and holidays. 
They didn't want me to have the success that I have achieved. 

It felt a little scary.
Not all of them hated me, of course. I had friends. 

However, the problem is that you have a few rotten apples 
and the ones who don't hate you will try to stay out of the battle. 

They don't want to get mixed up in all that. Everybody has 
their own life and their problems.

    count down the days left for me to become a veterinarian

    What made things worse, because of my dyslexia, the evening 
    before my exam, I had to relearn my alphabet to use the dictionary!

    formulation of the multiple-choice questions seemed like

    I  finally passed his exam on the first trial.
